night butterflies

video installation, double-sided video projection with sound, video HD, 16:9, 6'14'', 2018

The artwork consists of two projections facing opposite directions and a separate soundtrack. Each of these elements is presented out of sync. Both of the projections portray processes of repair: one illustrating the restoration of sight through cataract surgery, a leading cause of blindness; the other depicting a monotonous and laborious process of retouching photographs, aimed at removing white stains from the silver-based film, effectively symbolizing the restoration of a photograph. These projections are accompanied by a soundtrack featuring a text read in two languages, Polish and German, discussing the challenge of capturing memories, the subjectivity of memory, and the impossibility of establishing a single objective truth."
